The heat is on

Erratum: They say, “To err is human,” but to really fuck things up you need to get humans hopped up on free booze, bathtub speed and some sort of horse tranquilizer. Last week, I mistakenly reported that the Neon crew will be taking over programming at the SAT. This was totally bogus, as Neon will actually be taking over the daily operations of the bar at the SAT, which means—for those of you who have ever tried to get a drink at one of their Neon nights—a lot more people will be getting hammered. John Hatz, one of the Neon crew and graphic designer extraordinaire, will however be sitting on the artistic committee (amongst five other members) and the SAT will certainly be Neon’s new permanent home. Either way, this bodes well for the downtown art space.

More good news comes from the SAT as DJ roustabouts the Glimmers (aka the Glimmertwins) have been confirmed for March 23—anyone who has yet to clue in to this pair has got to pick up their mixes on Eskimo or K7. Magic! I’m so excited that it almost makes up for Justus Köhncke recently announcing the cancellation of his North American tour. Will we ever get to see the bearded one?

But the end of March is a long way away, and until then, staying warm is on everybody’s mind. Of course, this city offers so many ways to keep you moving that there’s no need to resort to crawling into a Ton-Ton, or getting extreme like that guy on Rage Against the Machine’s first album cover.

This Saturday, under the auspices of the Nuit Blanche, MUTEK and Piknic Electronik present the third annual Nuit Electronik at Station C. Yes, it’s an amazing evening of electronic knob-twiddling and hot-dog-on-a-stick-type winter chicanery. Minimal funk junky Ernesto and local dub lion deadbeat will be performing live sets, with Germany’s Wighnomy Brothers and our own Akufen on the decks. Of course, the big headliner is Berlin (via Detroit) legend Dan Bell, who helped pioneer the minimal techno sound oh so many years ago. Thanks, Dan! Tix are $25 in advance, $35 at the door.

Over at the SAT on Saturday, the Jeux Divers party gets fully interactive on yo’ ass with an evening of immersive gaming and dancefloor vibes. Guests will have a go at a new game called Snowmania on the giant screen, as well as a fully-360 panorama game called Lapis. DJs Romeo Kardec and Mini, and a live electro set by Second Sun, will provide the sounds. Fifteen dollars in advance, $20 at the door.

AND I THOUGHT THEY SMELLED BAD ON THE OUTSIDE! Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca
