Legendary producer Irwin Allen was responsible for scores of big-budget, high-concept movies in the ’60s and ’70s, including disaster flicks like 1974’s The Towering Inferno and 1972’s The Poseidon Adventure (a remake, entitled Poseidon, hits the big screen this year). Also a TV producer, his hits included Lost in Space and The Time Tunnel series (’66-’67), which comes out on DVD this week. A precursor to shows like Quantum Leap, The Time Tunnel featured a psychedelic swirling-spiral time machine and starred James Darren and Robert Colbert as scientists lost in time. The four-disc set contains the complete first season, which boasts plenty of guest star appearances from the likes of Robert Duvall, Carroll O’Connor and Ellen Burstyn.

Another cult classic out this week is Repo Man, a crazy, early-’80s sci-fi-punk-rock mish-mash starring Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton and featuring music by Black Flag, Circle Jerks and other L.A. hardcore types. This special edition includes commentary by director Alex Cox, a featurette called “Up Close With Harry Dean Stanton” and some previously lost scenes. —Mark Slutsky
