As if extortion and fraud weren’t enough, Halliburton’s now got a hat trick of filth, with some of its own claiming that Cheney’s corporate pig farm exposed the U.S. military in Ramadi to contaminated water and refused to let the troops know about the problem. In interviews with former employees, including William Granger, who oversaw water quality in Iraq, a Senate Democrat inquiry has heard that the troops and civilian population of Camp Junction City had been using water that contained “roughly two times the normal contamination of untreated water from the Euphrates River.” Granger’s findings came four months after the same problem was reported by Ben Carter, another water expert, who claims to have quit when Halliburton failed to address the issue. Carter reported that the base’s water contained “numerous micro-organisms, including coliform bacteria,” and warned company officials to advise the military. He says he was told to keep his mouth shut. Halliburton says they’ve already looked into the contamination and found no evidence of there ever having been a problem. » Scott Saxon |
