>> Copulation comes later, says organizer
of Monde Osé events

by CHRIS BARRY

Name: Frank Scirocco

Age: 27

Occupation:

Host/co-creator of the Monde Osé events

Bio: This enterprising St-Laurent libertine and his wife first hooked up as teenagers and “began investigating the lifestyle together online” just a few years afterwards. Uninspired by “the quality of people we were meeting—either they were fakes, or not serious, or totally didn’t look anything like the pictures they sent,” Frank and the missus began attending local swingers clubs only to discover anonymous public sex with strangers wasn’t quite their thing. “The sex clubs in Montreal are great and serve a need, but for us it’s very important to have a little flirtation first, if only to be able to create the sexual chemistry you’ll later bring with you into the bedroom. It’s just more exciting that way.” To this end, last summer Frank launched the first of a series of Monde Osé nights, restricted gatherings catering exclusively to “young, attractive, stylish, open-minded couples and single women” who are either curious or engaged in “the lifestyle” but not necessarily interested in attending arguably more traditional swingers events.

One way Monde Osé differs from other “swinging” events: For starters, there is no copulating allowed on site. “And it makes a huge difference to people—especially to single women, who are 25 per cent of our members. A lot of people are curious about the lifestyle but just too intimidated by the [on-site sex] clubs. With us, it’s just a party where people enjoy their bodies and sexuality but don’t feel they have to cross the line or do anything they determine uncomfortable.”

How to score an invite to what has to be one damn good party: First you have to become a member and go through a screening process. “Go to our site, www.mondeosé.com, send us a minimum of two pictures and answer a few questions. We have a panel of seven to nine people and we all vote to see if [applicants] are of Monde Osé standards.”

What happens if somebody seems hip but is somewhat unfortunate looking? “What we look for is attractiveness, and yes, looks are important, but not everything. Personal style, character, and motivation for joining are pretty important too.”

Is there any shortage of horny single males at their events? Possibly. “The thing with single males is that couples are usually looking for single women or other couples. Therefore, in response to demand, we don’t allow many single guys in—although there are occasional exceptions. But I insist on meeting them first to make sure they don’t have an aggressive character, or, because everyone at Monde Osé is open-minded, think that all the girls at the parties are whores—which obviously isn’t the case at all. One aggressive guy like that can ruin the whole event. And the beauty of these things is that everyone’s cool—and good looking.”

When the next Monde Osé party is going down: Friday, Dec. 9, at the Joy Nightspot, 2102 de la Montagne.

Last book read: Tuesdays With Morrie, by Mitch Albom.

Musical tastes: U2, Coldplay.

Words of wisdom: “If you have the opportunity to sit it out or dance, let’s dance.”
