They’re givin’ away careers

For those of you who were thinking it’s been a little too long since G-Unit made a stop in Montreal, I’m happy to report that young Tony Yayo will be touching down at Dome for a Nov. 20 show. The $30 ticket will include G-Don and K-Double, Teflon and Bad News Brown, with music provided by Don Smooth. Maybe you were at the premiere of Get Rich or Die Tryin’ like me last week, where a MIX 96 weather girl conducted a freestyle competition with people who couldn’t rap, with tickets to 50 Cent’s Dec. 19 show at the Bell Centre up for grabs. Not a bad score for the guy who won, with tickets ranging between $40 and $60.

Montreal’s Farm Team collective, the commercial hip hop, R&B and dancehall production house that’s been very busy this past year, is throwing another party at the Hard Rock Café on Friday, Nov. 18, to celebrate the launch of their new CD, Crossroads. The show will feature Farm Team artists and special guest Dave Hodges on the Hard Rock stage. Last time they played a show there, they sold the place out, so get your $8 ticket in advance, or pay $10 at the door if there’s still room.

You may have already heard about the Just Entertainment Demo Showcase competition, but any MCs or producers out there that don’t know, check it out. With 20 radio stations across Canada in participation, hopefuls send in their demos to be judged and eventually, three winning artists will have their song appear on a 12-inch to be distributed to every DJ in the country. If you make Canadian hip hop, you have until Jan. 1 to submit a track, so don’t hesitate, buddy. All you need to get in is a perishable food item and some tape-deck heat from your basement. Check out http://demoshowcase.

black-rap.com for all the details, and don’t forget to read the rules and regulations. Fine print makes the world go round.

The twisted cut disco of Artist of the Year is at Petit Campus tonight, Nov. 17, with special guest Dee to round out the night. And no, it’s not Dee from Atach Tatuq (whatup Dee!). You can check this other Dee at www.deemusic.com (he recently had a song featured on CBS’s Ghost Whisperer). Tix are only $8.50.

Happy belated birthdays to both Miss Molly and Halima, who hosted the illest kitchen party I’ve been to in a while last Saturday night. I hope all your birthday wishes come true.

I STILL THINK THERE’S HOPE... fathead@videotron.ca
