It’s immeasurable, the satisfaction one feels in sticking it to the Man. And for a woman in Dorking, England, her nose-thumbing cost a mail-order porn shop about $13,000 after she reviewed her goods and discovered the action on film wasn’t as hardcore as the good times shown on the boxes. Rather than chalk it up to a lesson learned, the unnamed woman complained to her area Trading Standards Institute (TSI). Like North America’s Better Business Bureau, the TSI offers consumer protection, sets a code of ethics and standards for business and influences government decisions in regards to fair market practices. Clearly, there could be no better place to turn when you find your porn’s not quite raunchy enough. “Consumers are often embarrassed to complain about purchases such as these,” said Trading Standards’ Peter Denard. Not this time. Pabo Ltd. was fined £4,000 by Dorking magistrates for misleading product descriptions, as well as another £2,044 for the woman’s courts costs and £75 in damages. » Scott Saxon |
