With its frenetic, gag-a-minute hilarity, inspired casting and humbling mastery of the double entendre, Arrested Development has more than earned the distinction of being the funniest sitcom on TV. Yet, as with most programs that rise above the insipidness of network television, the show’s fate has been in jeopardy since its first season (it’s now on its third). The release of that debut season on DVD is widely credited for helping secure the show’s renewal. And now that second season is on disc too. Extras include deleted scenes, bloopers and commentaries by the series’ creator Mitchell Hurwitz and several actors.

More literally batty fun can be had this week with the release of Batman Begins, which brings with it a slew of Bat-tertainment. There’s Batman: The Motion Picture Anthology 1989-1997, (the good Tim Burton ones and the bad Joel Schumacher ones). Also new to DVD is Batman: The Complete 1943 Movie Serial Collection, featuring WWII-era adventures and, apparently, some uncomfortable period-specific racial slurs. —MARK SLUTSKY
