Dear Defective,
A lot of people reading this are probably thinking, “Well of course you have a nice body, honey, you’re 25,” but if you’ve worked in the sex trade (and add to that being a fag) you know the skewing process that happens. As Nelly Arcan, an ex-prostitute who wrote the book Whore, once said in an interview with the Mirror, “At the escort agency that I worked for, when clients called, they would always ask for an 18-year-old, and I always thought that if they could ask for a 15-year-old, they would.”
Of course, the young and perfect may make the lion’s share of the easy money, but you’re perfect in a different way, so get off that beaten path where you belong— and there are many avenues, so ha ha, brace yourself. The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability is something that should be on your bookshelf, if only for the inspirational quote from Kath Duncan, a woman born with one full length-leg and one full-length arm. “We tend to class attractions as ‘normal’ and ‘abnormal, and an attraction to disabled folk is firmly assigned to the ‘abnormal’ basket. Maybe if disabled people on the whole weren’t so excluded from life and ‘normal’ life experiences, then the devotee [people who are infatuated with the disabled] attraction would not seem weird at all, but rather a factor of the magical continuum of desire, or the notion that there’s at least somebody for everybody—and hopefully, in all our cases, lots of somebodies.”
Bruce LaBruce is a well-known filmmaker and photographer. In Bruce’s oeuvre, you’ll notice a wide range of beauties, including the disabled. Check out his Web site, www.brucelabruce.com, for photos and contact information.
I also found this notice from March 2005 on Bent (www.bentvoices.org/bentvoices/admirers.htm), a Web site for gay disabled men and their fans:
“Carmelo Gonzalez and Diana Naftal, producers of the award-winning documentary short One Night Sit, which explores disability, sexuality and queerness are on to their new project: disabled porn. That’s right, folks! Homo Attendant has been green lighted by a major NYC porn production company. The video explores a sexual liaison between a client and his home attendant. Participants will be financially compensated.” The producers were casting disabled characters, and perhaps if the film is a success, they will continue to cast disabled characters in upcoming films. Gonzalez had not responded to my
e-mail at press time, but here is his contact information: carmelo@carmelogonzalez.com.
On a more immediate front, if you want to increase your income, place two ads. One where you’re a faux, non-disabled person, and one that promises something for devotees: the chance to live out a fantasy with a hot boy in leg braces. Get out there and make it work for you.
