Vidiot's Box

Fans of the crude and lewd have reason to rejoice, as the nauseating Very Crudely Yours, John Waters DVD set has arrived. These eight discs include the best of the trash auteur, among them Pink Flamingos (see the 300-pound trannie Divine eat dog feces!), Desperate Living (see the botched sex change operation of a criminal diesel dyke!), Pecker (learn what the term "tea-bagging" means!) and Polyester (scratch and sniff!). Waters' oeuvre is perfect video-party material and is bound to offend the in-laws. Especially funny are the voiceover tracks ("I really don't know what I was thinking when I came up with this," Waters says at one point during Flamingos), but the most awe-inspiring thing about this director is his brilliant casting instinct. Tab Hunter as Divine's leading man in Polyester? Edith Massey as the Egg Lady in Flamingos? Mink Stole as disgruntled-daughter-turned-Hare-Krishna in Female Trouble? Now that's genius! An added disc of bonus features makes this a must for any serious Waters buff. I strongly recommend panic buying. » Matthew Hays
