Although the release of his new LP on Chocolate Industries has been delayed, Montreal's own Ghislain Poirier continues to assault the city with bitcrushing bass at his Bounce le Gros nights. The next one is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept. 10, at Zoobizarre, and it will only cost you $3 to cross the threshold. If you've been looking for some place to get up on the hip hop, ragga, grime, crunk and favela funk tip, Big Ghis is your man. Ask him about his new mix CD Dirtier Than Clean when you see him. Maybe he'll hook you up.

Reggae Massive Thursdays over at Blue Dawg fall in with their Back 2 School special tonight, Sept. 8. DJs Ms. B and Selecta Jinx are offering free admission for students with a valid ID before 12:30 a.m. - and after that, NO STUDENTS ALLOWED! Not true, but after the above time, everybody will have to pay the $6 cover once again.

Looks like Montreal is in line for a show from Jamaica's own Capleton coming up on Oct. 7. The venue has yet to be disclosed, but he'll be joined by Jah Thunda for the Montreal installment of the Reign of Fire Tour.

This week, the Funkn Soul thing is definitely underway, with shows from New York's Siji tonight at 10 p.m. over at Jello, Toronto's God Made Me Funky, also at Jello, on Friday, Sept. 9 at 9 p.m., and Cosmic Café over at SAT with Daniel Moreno, DJ Moka, Kobal, Ilya, Karl and Mabika-KI, on Saturday at 9 p.m.

Don't forget to check out the exciting conclusion to the team Evidence vs. team DrunknMunky LIHQ drama that's been unfolding on live mics for the past few months. The game-show-style freestyle MC/b-boy battle comes to a head on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the SAT, where one team will win bragging rights, and maybe some cash and prizes if they're lucky. DJ Naes and Kulcha Connection are also on the bill, so put $10 aside for Sunday.

Need another reason to visit the brand new Lola Lounge (1023 Bleury)? Sunday nights at Word of Mouth, DJs Twitch, Sagewondah and Djoolz offer an homage to hip hop, as well as the occasional live act. Best thing is, it's free, just like a Sunday night should be.

Lastly, if deep and soulful house is more your speed on a Sunday, it's worth looking into Salvation From Sin with DJ Sinister over at Pub Quartier Latin every week. Movin' and groovin' since late July, maybe this is just what you've been looking for.
