Vidiot's Box

A culmination of Stephen Chow's previous movies, Kung Fu Hustle raises the chopsocky comedy bar to another level. In this Looney Tunes-inspired live action comedy, China's biggest comedy star plays a two-bit gangster wannabe who tries to shake down a ghetto compound - not realizing that retired hidden masters walk among the seniors and skids. With his signature slapstick, deadpan wit and plenty of kung fu showdowns, this black belt laugh fest will leave you wondering, "Where can Chow go from here?"

If martial arts isn't your thing, no problem. As of Aug. 16, you can enjoy watching Jessica Alba work the pole and Chloë Sevigny work the unbelievably disproportionate Vincent Gallo in the privacy of your own home. Yes, both Sin City and Brown Bunny are out on video this week. The former is an adaptation of Frank Miller's sleazy, ultra-violent, noir comic series - and thanks to an all-star cast, a whole lotta computer animation and Miller's co-direction, Robert Rodriguez's comic-to-celluloid translation is picture-perfect. The latter is, of course, Gallo's infamous arthouse porn road trip, a film that will leave you wondering, "Is that a prosthetic?" » Sarah Rowland
