Fighting it out >> NYC's Dynamite Club kick-start the noise rock |

by RAF KATIGBAK
Mirror: How do you go from playing and studying jazz standards to body slamming each other at experimental noise rock gigs? Kentaro Saito: I wasn't a quiet person on stage to begin with. I never understand all these jazz performers looking at each other's faces to try and prove they're gay or something. That's my honest opinion. I didn't see the beauty in that. M: When did you first see the beauty in getting pile driven? KS: When we first practised our kung fu song. It was supposed to have free jazz part expressing kung fu, but Mike thought if we actually fight it would be better, and I agreed. M: Who's the better fighter? KS: I don't know. He slams me and kicks me. Usually, I don't do anything. The first time we did kung fu, we were running around and Mike did the splits accidentally, so he was complaining he was hurt. I thought it was better for me to take his kicks so he doesn't complain. M: I heard Japanese wrestlers use flaming barbed-wire baseball bats. KS: Ultimate Fighting is crazy 'cause sometimes guy can't fight, really. Maybe he had a bad night yesterday. Sometimes they do weird match like boxer against judo people. If things go well, boxer guy's gonna make judo guy's face as bloody as possible, but if things goes bad then boxer doesn't have anything to do with fight. He just laying on the ground and get hit by judo guy. Very painful to see! With the World Provider and Daiquiri at Zoobizarre on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 9 p.m., $6 |
