True honey buns

by SCOTT C

If you haven't already guessed what I'm about to say this week, I've got one hint for ya: mad explosive spontaneity. The queen bee herself will touch down in Montreal this Friday, and even though I wasn't able to chat with her, I can still make sure you all know that this is one of the best right here. Bahamadia has been representing serious lyrics for a long time, and all heads should know what this woman is about. Don't miss your opportunity to see her live this Friday, Aug. 12 at Foufounes, with Eternia, Tara Chase and Killa Jewel, for only $10. God bless the day that Bahamadia and DJ Premier hooked up for her first LP Kollage. That record is the soundtrack for so many things, at least for me. Cop it, if you don't already have it.

As I write this, I have about 25 minutes before I talk to Moka Only, who'll be in town for a show on Aug. 21 at the Main Hall with DJ Serious and the Quartertones. This sometime Swollen Member is sooo much better on his own, it's not even worth complaining about. Moka's been making music for at least 10 years and he's getting better with age. His new record, The Desired Effect, is out soon.

A little bird told me that the holy trinity of P-Thugg, Jordan Dare and Simahlak are starting a new monthly at the Main Hall called Get Low. First one is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 25 and is set to be a hot mix of this and that. Stay tuned, there's sure to be more on this for sure.

Tripped over a weird little tidbit in the September schedule. Apparently Blacksheep are gonna try to do the Montreal show thing again. If you remember correctly, the last time they were booked here, only Mr. Lawnge showed up, and he wasn't impressing anyone. So, on September 7, they'll be back with DJ Z-Trip and DJ Goldenchyld for a show at la Tulipe. Let's hope Dres makes it past the border this time.

CKUT's poster boys from Off the Hook have a new Friday night joint over at the Jupiter Room. Join Orion, DJ Budda Blaze and Flow every week for the best in old-school and golden era hip hop. Three bucks at the door says no R&B or remotely jiggy stuff is getting played in here, so don't even bother asking.

Seven reasons they do it better in Trois-Pistoles:
1. Moka Only "Valentine" (CDR)
2. Jneiro Jarel "Brooklyn Mood" (Label Who?)
3. Nomadic Massive ft. Lou Piensa "Walk With Me" (CDR)
4. Paco Aldebaran "Sleepwalkin'" AOTY instrumental (CDR)
5. Dimlite "Back to the Universe" Slapped Eyeballers rmx (Sonar Kollektiv)
6. Tangoterje "New Morning" 12" (GAMM)
7. Keelen Beckford "Your Wife Is My Wife" 7" (Flames)
