Duck, You Sucker!

If you get your yeah yeahs off from extreme close-ups of barely legal pelt, raunchy double-penetration scenes and money shots where some chick’s face is being used as a cum towel, the Erotic Tales series is probably not for you. But if the tease of what could be turns you on more than graphic imagery, then you’re likely to appreciate Regina Ziegler’s series.

In 1996, the Berlin-based producer asked 12 directors from around the world to contribute 30-minute erotic films, which were to be aired on Germany’s state-funded TV network, WDR. Since then, her ever-expanding series has been screened at over 200 festivals in more than 40 countries and now all 30 shorts are coming to the Cinémathèque québécoise, Thursday, June 9–Wednesday, June 29.

Highlights include Hal Hartley’s sensual little celluloid poem Kimono, which is really nothing more than a beautiful Asian bride shedding the layers of her elaborate wedding dress as she runs through a forest. Simple, yet so hot for some reason. From Russia, we have Georgi Shengelaya’s Georgian Grapes, a sweet film about a mechanic who thinks of sex with his wife as an obligatory duty, and spends his days dreaming of pounding the unattainable pin-up girls that line his garage walls. One day, his old ball and chain trades in her potato sack dress for a micro mini and removes the peasant scarf to reveal her raven locks. Predictably, her instant makeover opens his eyes to his wife’s natural beauty and results in some afternoon delight in a nearby vineyard—and there’s plenty more where that came from. Other film-related events happening this weekend include Montreal’s 15th First Peoples’ Festival, which kicks off with The Mohawk Girls. Directed by Montreal-based Tracey Deer, the feature documentary follows three female wrestlers for a year as they deal with issues of abandonment, racism, reserve politics and, of course, the regular high school pressures. From New Zealand, we have the adorable Two Cars, One Night by Taika Cohen, which was nominated for Best Short Filmat the 2005 Oscars. These are just two of 90 films from 10 different countries to be screened Monday, June 13–Wednesday, June 22. For more info, visitwww.nativelynx.qc.ca

At the Cinéma du Parc, a new 35 mm print of Sergio Leone’s Western Duck, You Sucker! featuring 20 minutes cut from the original theatrical release, will be screened this weekend. See repertory listings for showtimes.
