I was moved by Tallblackchick's demand to be recognized as a soul and not just an exotic object of sexual desire ["Black bosoms, bottoms and brains," Letters, May 26].

It's rare to read such a cri de coeur, even in the supposedly progressive underground press, where hedonistic sensual obsession seems to prevail. This obsession even fails to let Sasha recognize this obsessively tragic situation of a 40-year-old gay black male whose fetish is to be verbally and physically degraded while performing oral sex on a white male ["Black and blue," Sasha, May 26].

On the other hand, Tallblackchick must realize that the present unbalanced culture we live in is white hot in its sexual stimulation to the average male.

On some days, I am so turned on by the sexual attractiveness of the multitude of beautiful women in Montreal that I'm blinded to their sensitive souls, and have but one aim in mind: pussy. I hope she and other women can understand this and bear with it.

It seems to me that you are a woman who was hurt a lot by men, and you want to point the finger at somebody. Instead of pointing the finger at others, you need to get to the root of your problem, and maybe you should point the finger at yourself.

Men want pussy - full stop. Some want it just for the fuck of it, for the fantasy, some want it with strings, or matrimonial ties attached. I had a really long-winded letter in mind to write you, but I think I can sum up your problem in one brief paragraph.

I am a white, tall, handsome (or so my mother told me), as honest as the world around me allows (and therefore not naïve) male, who prefers black women. I think black women are the best in the world. I want to marry, have children and introduce a black woman to my family, who would accept her like any woman I would bring into my life.

Therefore, I found your comments racially offensive and generalizing the type of men you described as the norm, when in actuality they are far from it.

Through introspection, you will see the centre and the whole sum of where your problem lies. You need to find a man who wants your pussy for life and not just for Christmas. If you want a one-night stand, then go for it, just like many dickheads do. If you want an enduring love, then do not give up the pussy until you are sure of the intentions of the man - that he is not just another Pinocchio.

Regarding last week's Angel, ["File-sharing still legal," May 26]: How can you compare home taping, in which one album may get reproduced two or three times onto cassette, with the exponentially bigger network that is the Internet.

While I'm not naïve enough to think that artists, producers and engineers get more than a tiny fraction of an album sold in a record store, they're still getting a bum deal the second their work is plopped into cyberspace, free to countless millions for the taking.

I'd like to point out a factual error in a film review of Derrida I found in the archives on your Web site ["Philospher king," Feb 20, 2003].

The reviewer writes about a silly question asked by a British interviewer. The interviewer was, in fact, the Australian journalist Andrea Stretton. As a Briton, I hope this slight to the good name of my country will be corrected.
