Vidiot's Box

Whether he's riding bulls in Junior Bonner (1972), or Faye Dunaway's riding him in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Steve McQueen remains the undisputed King of Cool. Last week MGM released the Steve McQueen Collection, which, in addition to the two aforementioned films, includes The Great Escape (1963) and a souped-up cut of The Magnificent Seven (1960). Not to be outdone, Warner Bros. will release its own tribute to the studly stuntman at the end of the month. The Warner boxset offers The Cincinnati Kid (1965), Never So Few (1959), Papillon (1973), Tom Horn (1980), as well as special editions of both Bullitt (1968) and The Getaway (1972).

Also out this week is a re-release of DA Pennebaker's Don't Look Back (1967). His intimate portrait of Bob Dylan's '65 tour through England will honour the Tambourine Man's 64th birthday on Tuesday, May 24. But don't expect any more bonus footage or added features in this collector's edition; the innards are pretty much the same as the fully loaded 2000 version, just slightly different packaging. » Sarah Rowland
