Like many Jess Franco films, Female Vampire (1973) has several different aliases and comes in three versions: erotically charged horror, soft core and the hard core cut, complete with inserted split beav shots. Unfortunately, the latest Jess Franco Collection, which is available this week, only features the Spanish filmmaker's tamest contribution. But Franco-philes can still get off on seeing his half-naked leading lady, aka '70s cult icon Lina Romay, playing a bloodsucking lesbo who (depending on the version) feeds off her victims via cunnilingus. The boxset also includes one of Franco's personal faves A Virgin Among the Living Dead (1971), The Sadistic Baron Von Klaus (1962) and something from one of the lamest genres in horror (the Nazi Zombie genre), Oasis of the Zombies (1983).

Speaking of those genocidal maniacs, Aleksandr Sokurov's Moloch - a German/Russian production that explores Hitler's tumultuous relationship with Eva Braun - is coming out on DVD with English subtitles. The 1999 Cannes winner, which has been harshly criticized for depicting the Führer as all too human, may be too conceptual for history buffs. But many cinephiles still consider it to be a first-rate art film. » Sarah Rowland
