When it rains... |

Great news for nightlife veterans who miss the dark thrill of an afterhours event but can't bear to party till the sun comes up (or have better things to do with their weekend mornings than measuring their serotonin depletion). Space 32 is a new Friday-night weekly at 32 Ste-Catherine W. (meaning Club Dôme) that delivers the big-club experience during regular club hours. Kicking it off with a bang, they've got Italy's Mauro Picotto on hand to deliver some world-class big-room sound. Watch out for future gigs by Bruno Brown, Loco Fern and Felix Da Housecat at the end of the month. Check www.space32.com for more info. Much-a-fuss is being made over the Eastern European D&B sound lately, so come check the future at Blue Dog's Junglist Fridays with special guests from Germany, the duo Phace (Florian Harres and Nicolas Ruoff). With forthcoming 12-inches on heavyweight imprints like Subtitles, SLR and Moving Shadow, these two are certainly ones to watch. Eight bucks, with residents Generic, Stalker and DJ Stabba. Mucho madness on Saturday as hard techno freaks will no doubt be getting their collective panties (or "manties," if you're a guy) in a bunch over the Hard As Fuck XXX party. It's another 11-hour, two-room hardcore/hard trance/techno extravaganza (with a subtle underlying sexual theme). Gravers can leave the black lipstick at home, as dress code for the night is "pimp 'n' ho" (!?). Headlining the hardcore will be the unsane Delta 9 from Chicago, T.O.'s Unabomber and Ottawa's Lou Cypher Project, with backup from familiar technocrats like Sarcastic and Doc Savage. Check www.synergycanada.com for details. Making the "why didn't anyone ever think of this sooner?" category this week, the SAT will be hosting Amazone 3D, an evening of music (with DJs Neerav, Rickam and Yann) and interactive, improvised 3D visual environments viewed with polarized stereo glasses and using real-time computer graphics that claim to push the medium even further than YTV's Reboot show (courtesy of German VJ crews Metaverses and Parallelscape). Eight dollars at the door on Saturday, April 9. Need to get fit and ready to squeeze into those day-glo poom-poom shorts that will be "all the rage" this season? No prob. Check out Top Shape this Saturday at 7154 St-Urbain (De Castelnau metro) for a disco-techno-electro workout with DJs Le Faussaire (aka Vincent Lemieux), Beat Market, Dianaphragm and No Way Pack. Five bucks before midnight. YOU'RE FIT, BUT YOU KNOW IT! Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca |
