Academy Award-winner Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God) stars as a self-loathing, pill-popping, cellulite-riddled divorcee in What the Bleep Do We Know Anyway!?, a docu-drama about the laws of possibility. This quantum physics for dummies, which is out on DVD this week, weaves Matlin's vignettes between clearly explicated theories of the science behind losing streaks. While the spiritual cinema production values may look like that of a repugnant promotional video for a New-Age retreat, fear not. About 10 minutes in, it becomes clear that the 14 physicists, neurologists and physicians aren't selling anything - other than a non-intrusive way of decoding the neural pathways that lead to a life filled with failures, disappointments and cottage cheese thighs.

And in preparation for Hideo Nakata's The Ring Two, which opens this week with most of the same cast (Naomi Watts), DreamWorks recently released a collector's edition of Gore Verbinski's The Ring. Along with his American remake of Nakata's Japanese cult classic about a haunted VHS tape, there is a never-seen-before short that links Verbinski's version and Nakata's theatrical sequel. » Sarah Rowland
