Cops shoot cat

Despite public outcry, Gillespie, Illinois, police chief Rick Hearn says his officers were right to taser and shoot that kitty-cat.

The two officers were called to investigate a cat fight. On arriving, they were told one cat had fled and the other was in the rafters of a garage, badly mangled and missing an eye. Police tried to coax the cat down with some pepper spray. When that failed, they called animal control. When AC Officer Jessica Spangler couldn't retrieve the cat, the cops hit it with a Taser.

According to Hearn, Spangler insisted the cat be put out of its misery, so "officers took the cat outside the city limits and shot it."

Though Illinois law allows for suffering animals to be euthanized, people are questioning how humanely this incident was dealt with.

Hearn thinks the officers buried the cat, but their final report doesn't mention where it went or what they did with it.
