"I like making experimental, personal films with lots of animation in them," Goodwyn says, namechecking Stan Brakhage as one big influence. "I enjoy actually handling the film. I use 16 mm film and a Bolex camera, edit on a flat bed, and so far I've preferred the films to be silent." Goodwyn airs her film works through the Double Negative film collective, which organized a screening at the NFB theatre last July, and will be screening again this spring. She's also involved with the Circle K media collective. "It started out with these teenage boys with video cameras in Verdun - it's their street gang," Goodwyn explains. "Every summer there's a festival featuring rock bands and films." Goodwyn's love affair with the zine aesthetic has flowered with Lickety Split, a smut zine that promotes the sexual expression of artists from various lifestyles working in various media. "l consider it to be a curatorial effort," Goodwyn explains. "I invite artists and writers who will go well together." The first issue was launched with a sold-out show at Sala Rossa last year, featuring Pony Up!, Holy Moly and Wolf Parade. The second issue's now in print, and Goodwyn's setting up a St-Henri launch for later this month. "The latest issue is an intimate, hand-holding experience," says Goodwyn. "I want the third issue to be a more dirty, wild-sex-in-public kind of thing. I've already started a course at Danse Ero Teknique as research!" For more info, visit www.construktor.net. |
