Hold your head

by SCOTT C

First of all, peace and blessings go out to Euphrates and the family of Nofy Fannan, who sadly passed away last week after lying in a coma for many days. Now the task of weighing the circumstances surrounding his death have become much more important. Nofy was hit by an Atlas cab on Tuesday, Nov. 2, while crossing Côte-St-Luc road. Rest in peace.

This Friday, Dec. 3, Brass Knuckles affiliate Simon B hits the decks over at Salon Daomé for a night of old school vs. new school as well as funk, soul, house, Latin, rock and whatever else he’s got packed in the crate for the dance floor. They wouldn’t keep asking him to come back if he wasn’t doing something right, so check him out. Also on Dec. 3, the boys (and girl) from Kobayashi take the stage at le Swimming one more time before the end of 2004. I just got my hands on some of their new shit for next year, and you need to pay attention. DJ Red Menace opens things up for the $7 show, with the K rolling up around 11 p.m. Be there.

The visual nerds from Po’Start are having their big coming-out party this weekend on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Main Hall. You may have seen their fine work up at la Sala Rossa during one of the many parties they’ve complemented. As a result, myself, Andy Williams and DJ Kobal are providing the musical accompaniment to this evening of visual fun. The $8 ticket includes 3D glasses, and the party starts at 9 p.m.

If you didn’t know already, ?uestlove of the Roots is coming to town on Dec. 10 for a DJ set over at Exit. For a minor $12, you can start your holidays off right. You can continue those good feelings with a trip down to Club Dome on Sunday, Dec.12, when Nas makes his grand Montreal appearance for a little bit more of a ticket price. It’s all worth it, though—just thinking of the entire audience singing along with my man is enough to get me there. Don’t sleep.

Anyone who has ever enjoyed themselves at the Goods monthly is invited down to our Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at Kunta Lounge. There’ll be food, live performances and a few surprises, along with the regular dose of great music and dancing. This place is cozy, so get there early. Doors are at 9 p.m., no cover.

Seven reasons I’ll be a monkey’s uncle:
1. CVEES “Spreadlovetoya” (Spymusic)
2. MF Doom MM Food (Rhymesayers)
3. DJ Mitsu the Beats New Awakening Remixes (Planet Groove)
4. Build an Ark Peace With Every Step (Kindred Spirits)
5. Okada Taxi “Season 2 Season” (Planet Groove)
6. Nas Street’s Disciple (Columbia)
7. De La Soul “Rock Co.Kane Flow” feat MF Doom (Sanctuary)

I’m always ready to eat... fathead@videotron.ca
