Get 'em while they're hot

by SCOTT C

This Sunday, Nov. 28, over at the SAT, you might be able to get your hands on a few choice pieces of vinyl - and maybe even a couple of those CDs that your roommate "borrowed" and never gave back. From noon until 5 p.m., the SAT presents their DJ Bazaar, where some of the city's biggest music aficionados unload the goods. The event is free for crate-diggers, but if you're interested in renting a six-foot sales table, it'll cost you all of $10. Send an e-mail to booggee@hotmail.com if you want to reserve some space.

Chingy's coming to town. The skinny brother from Walnut Park, responsible for hits like "Right Thurr," "Holidae In" and "One Call Away," is a couple of days away from a show over at Club Dome, where he plays on Monday, Nov. 29. Backup will be provided by the capable hands of Mike Mission, DJ Hill and DJ Short, as well as performances from B.U., Meta4ce, Apollo Chriss and Massari. Tix are $30, southern drawl not included.

Somebody's been busy. Montreal MC Rugged Intellect just dropped his new piece called The Media Hype Mixtape, featuring 19 tracks of freestyles and hot shit produced by Memo of the Molemen, and others. Rugged's just getting started though, with plans to drop his first official release, Fundamentals Vol. 1, very soon. That project features production from DJ Muggs, Memo, Domingo, the Avid, Apokalyptik and Sandhill. Keep an ear to the street, and check out www.aptunes.com for more information.

Tonight, Thursday, Nov. 25, DJ Bliss drops by to see the Broken crew at Blizzarts as part of the Broken All-Stars Series. Bliss, aka "The Hammer," knows his way around breakbeat madness. If that's your bag, you know where to go. The tax is $4 at the door, or $4 if you tell them Hamish sent you.

Got a note from Marco at Bully Records, Montreal's one-stop, mail-order, leftfield seven-inch emporium, saying that our good friend P-Love is releasing his new single, "Rocket Launcher Test" b/w "Trueno Apex," this very week. Check the Bully Web site for details, at www.bullyrecords.com. It just so happens that P-Love also tied the knot with his true love and the real Rick James, Paula, earlier this week in a quiet family ceremony, and I'd like to wish them and their two children, Adobo and Lumpia, nothing but niceness from here on in.

Late birthday wishes go out to DJ Dubline, who invited me to play with him last week at his regular Thursday night down at Luba Lounge, but didn't bother to inform me that it was his special day. Nerd. We'll get drunk this week.
