Whether he's playing a guy named Ed with scissors for hands or a guy named Ed with shoulder pads for boobs, Johnny Depp adds a lyrical charm to every movie he stars in. To wit: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, an otherwise fruity high seas adventure, turns out to be a rum-soaked barrel of guilty pleasure. This is largely due to Depp's briny, pisht and shipless character Jack Sparrow. Depp's muse: the undead rock zombie Keith Richards, complete with those ridiculous silver trinkets dangling from his mangy locks. You can check out the new three-disc collector's edition, which includes "The Lost Disc" of mini docs, deleted scenes and a featurette about Depp's marauding inspiration. Argh!
In other DVD news, Takeshi Kitano's 2003 Japanese bloodbath Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman is making its digital debut this week. A sightless, stealthy, geriatric samurai saves a helpless village by slicing and dicing his way through two warring gangs. Special features: an interview with the director/star/writer himself, behind-the-scenes footage and a second Kitano movie, the 1998 Sonatine. » Sarah Rowland
