Vidiot's Box

Chicks zipping up their jeans with pliers, snapping beer caps across the parking lot and shot-gunning Pilsner. Yep, Richard Linklater really nailed that '70s vibe in Dazed and Confused and now three of his former classmates are trying to nail his ass in a court of law for character defamation. Rent the newly released special edition of his 1993 bong hit - which includes nine outtakes and a series of retro public announcements about the dangers of partying - and contribute to Linklater's legal aid fund!

Grand Theft Parsons, also new on DVD, stars Johnny Knoxville as real life "Road Mangler Deluxe" Phil Kaufman. The fast-talkin' ex-con's most notorious escapade is recounted here: after making a pact with shit-kicking country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons, Kaufman sets out to cremate the deceased musician's corpse in a blazing desert fire. But first he must steal the body and outrun a gold-digging girlfriend who needs it to authenticate Parsons' will. Knoxville is sexy when he straddles a hog in a worn-out cowboy hat but the movie is abominable. On the other hand, any opportunity to hear Parson's heartbreakingly beautiful music for the first time is worth taking. » Sarah Rowland
