I dig Digga

by SCOTT C

Got a call from Audra over at FP International this week, one of the many people I know in this city whom I've only ever talked to on the phone. I picture Audra with an advanced cellphone implant imbedded just below her earlobe, allowing her to make hundreds of phone calls on a daily basis without the cumbersome inconvenience of dialing, holding the phone, or using her hands at all. Sadly, Audra probably isn't some hi-tech cyborg who happens to work for a record label, but she does call me with news every once and a while, which is always good. Seems the elusive, deep-voiced Rah Digga is set to hit Montreal for a live show towards the end of November. This lone female member of Busta Rhymes' Flipmode Squad is easily one of my favorite MCs, and someone I'm sure a lot of us have wondered about in the last few years. She was discovered by Q-Tip after a performance at the Lyricist's Lounge, and quickly established herself as a creative force with a unique voice. She's set to appear at Circus on Nov. 26 with DJ Lazy K, so stay tuned.

Florida native and Big Dada signee Diplo will be in town soon, making his first-ever Montreal appearance under the watchful eye of his Ninja Tune handlers. He was touring with Amon Tobin and Kid Koala, and later RJD2, across the better part of North America earlier this year, and is just getting around to us now. Don't be mad. His new LP, fittingly called Florida, is in stores now. He'll be playing the Main Hall with P-Love and DJ Luv on Saturday, Nov. 20. Tix are $10, and the first 100 people in the door get a free Diplo mega-mix. I hope this satisfies you. Hollertronix!

MTL hip hop crew Typecast returns to the stage this Wednesday, Nov. 10, at le Swimming. There's a beatbox battle, as well as a break battle with some money up for grabs, before things actually get underway on stage. Rugged Intellect will be opening up the show. Five bucks will get you in.

On the visual tip, Kops Crew presents Massive Riot, running till Nov. 17 at their temporary gallery at 5392 St-Laurent. Perfect for your post-election downer/upper. You can also check out some new work from infamous MTL graffiti legend Timer as he presents an exhibition at the Sub V space in NDG. Tattoo artist Dave Knight will also have work on display. That's on Saturday, Nov. 6, at Sub V (5666 Sherbrooke W., metro Vendôme) starting at 8 p.m. and going till midnight. Food, drinks and music? Yes! Lastly, check out Casa/Sala barkeep Marielyne Tarabulsy's paintings this Sunday, Nov. 7, when she presents her exhibition, along with new works from her father Mikhail Tarabulsy, at Casa del Popolo. Food and drinks, and music provided by me and Johnson Cummins.

Happy birthday, LB!!!! fathead@videotron.ca
