Lloyd have mercy

by SCOTT C

Okay, so we weren't good enough to secure a date from Usher, Kanye and A-trak, who blew through Toronto like one of those hurricanes that we've all been seeing on the news as of late. Montreal is, however, indeed going to get a show from Lloyd Banks, DL Incognito, Bless and Kwite Sane. LB is money on the mic for the G-Unit ruling class these days, so if you dig Lloyd, DO NOT SLEEP this week or you will lose. On Wednesday, Oct. 27, Lloyd and company descend on the lovable Club Dôme to take care of MTL bizness. Tix are $40 with limited capacity, and have already been on sale since Oct. 1, so make a move.

Inbeat Records employee, DJ and football head Lexis celebrates his birthday this Friday, Oct. 22, over at Salon Daomé with a night called Bunt. On deck are Kobayashi, bringing it to you live on the spot, as well as some class spinning on the part of the birthday boy himself. I've got some special birthday treats for Lexis and his buddy Jess, who is also celebrating another year, but they'll have to wait until Friday night.

The boys from Offsides are getting set to embark on a Canadian tour in the coming weeks, and apparently the only Quebec show is going to be at Bourbon Street West (1866 des Sources, Pointe-Claire) next Thursday, Oct. 28. These guys just finished shooting their second video, for the song "2:55," which should be hitting the airwaves sooner than you think, so watch out. Big up to D.R. One and Bailey, whom I hung out with at the Adidas Vintage Line "style wars" party at some castle in Montreal East last week. Never thought I'd say this, but cognac kills...

Sala Rossa's got the ever-popular double bill this weekend with a rare matinée appearance of the Rubber Chicken Family Circus this Saturday at 1 p.m. Superstar barkeeps Kathy "Face" Daehler and Marc "Fonzarelli" Beauchamps clown it up in divine comic style, with musical accompaniment by Creature. Tix are $10 or $8 for students. Later that night is a special installment of The Goods. This month, we're inviting any and all serious, open-minded dancers to come and get down from 10:30 p.m. to midnight, where you'll be filmed for Andy Williams' work in progress Jazz Diaspora. Dancers in free before 12, and the music keeps on after that. If you've got style, or not, make a move and get on the floor! That's Saturday, Oct. 23 at la Sala Rossa. Funk, soul, hip hop, house, broken beat, Afro, Latin and Brazilian beats are on the menu.

Seven reasons it's in the genes:
1. Greyboy Shades of Grey (Ubiquity)
2. Beans Shock City Maverick (Warp)
3. De La Soul The Grind Date (Sanctuary)
4. Ali Shaheed Muhammad Shaheedullah and Stereotypes (Penalty)
5. Alchemist "Tick Tock" feat. Nas and Prodigy (Koch)
6. DJ Blast "Les Rues de Montréal" w/ Frenchi Blanco, Ray Ray and Critik (MM)
7. Ivana Santilli "Breathe Inn" Moonstarr's CO-OP mix (CDR)
