Also on Saturday, just up the street at Main Hall, St-Remi Productions takes over for another Deep Saturday monthly. If you were feeling last month's pumping mega-rave vibe, then make sure you catch Montreal DJs Simmz and Saboteur recording artist Tony Roma as they drop more dark and sexy beats. Ten dollars at the door. Kudos goes to the programmers at MEG who have brought together what I think is their most impressive line-up yet. By now you should all know what's up with this year's fest, so let me just tell you who I am totally psyched about: Maurice Fulton. Dude makes some whacked-out space disco and when he's on, he is so on! Make sure you get to Club Soda early on Friday to catch him (and his wife Matsumi as MU). Alternately, for a revealing show of a different kind, the Scandelles take over la Sala Rossa for their "nude, lewd, rock 'n' roll musical" Neon Nightz, featuring live backup band Rocket Tits. Two shows, 8:30 and 11 p.m., $12 at the door. Okay, I'm getting ahead of myself. Tonight is a great night to catch some live electro acts. Over at the Green Room, St-Louis duo Femme Fatality hit Montreal for a dose of dancefloor-erupting electro-pop. If you haven't heard of these guys before (they've opened for the Rapture and Felix Da Housecat and allegedly upstaged them both), Femme Fatality have been attracting the loudest, rowdiest, most drunkenly raucous crowd in their hometown since the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame opened up back in '84. Black outfits and eyeliner not mandatory, but suggested. Over at DJ Mini's Overdose night, Montreal's own Quebec Connection drop their own take on frosty pop and Italo-disco with a special performance by scratch champ DJ Mana. Make sure to visit the merch table and hook up with their debut disc, a tribute to Montreal in '67, Bonjour Expo. The body of the offence, the essence of the crime. Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca |
