Global, seen?

Let me bring it to you on a global level for a second. Montreal-based hip hop crew Nomadic Massive recently made a trip down to Havana, Cuba, where they participated in the 10th annual Cuban Hip Hop Festival. Made up of several Montreal artists who do their thing right here at home, Nomadic Massive is Lou Piensa, Wyzah, Narcycist, Vox Sambou, Buttabeats, Chilenito, Rawgged MC and DJ Static. These guys are back in town and about to present a show called the Canada-Cuba Get Down over at the Nest (3673 St-Dominique) on Sunday, Oct. 10, where they'll perform the show they took to Cuba, supported by a photo exhibit of the trip, and screenings and installations by MalibooMel, Stefan Verna and Jose Lozano-Garcia. These guys seem to understand how important it is to be aware and in touch with other hip hop movements in the world, and are happy to be a part of a much bigger picture. Check it out. Five-dollar entry, or the $10 Nomadic Massive CD deal that gets you in and laced with the goodness.

This week, Good Vibes Thursdays over at Blue Dawg with Ms. B, Selecta Jinx and James Bond take it to the world with a night to benefit the hurricane victims of Jamaica and Grenada. Giving Thanks happens tonight, Oct. 7, and features guests Kwite Sane, Little Thunder, LDG, Tuff, Road Warrior, Blaster, DJ Soul and of course Eddie Lewis. You know the situation in the islands is serious, so anything you can do to help out would be much appreciated.

The Kops Crew jump in with both feet for a dancehall/jungle happening next Thursday, Oct. 14, when they present Demolition Man, Million Man, DJ Saigon, Maysr and Mayday at the Main Hall. The show starts at 11 p.m. and you can check it for a mere $10. If you forget, I'll remind you again later.

Mobb Deep has been confirmed for an Oct. 29 date at the Dome. The original Queensbridge thugs, Havoc and Prodigy haven't seen the mean streets of MTL for a minute, but I'm sure they'll keep it thorough. No word on ticket prices yet but watch this space for details.

The Solid State hotties are at it once again! The new dance work It's Not You, It's Me from this diligent MTL next-level B-girl outfit is presented on Oct. 7, 8 and 9, 8:30 p.m., at Tangente (840 Cherrier), followed by a 4 p.m. show on Oct. 10. You'll be glad you went! Tix info at www.tangente.qc.ca or 525-1500.
