Don't expect: Frigid's Kink! night at Unity II. It seems that the local androgynous icon's Saturday-night Schizotronic nights at Saphir are going so well that Frigid is dropping his night at Unity II faster than the wrong end of a curling iron. Never fear, Frigid assures us - Kink! will be back in 2005 with a live band/DJ format, so stay tuned… Friday, Oct. 8, expect: to catch Impromptu Fridays at Juice as members of the Dizzy Tuesday crew Jenn and Manousos have secured a regular house-music weekly at the third-floor lounge/club. This week's guests will include Mischief & Frankie from the Hustlin' and Boa Redux camps respectively. On Saturday, Juice hosts the Fickle weekly with special guests Simon B and Luke Native. Don't expect: an average night at St-Laurent watering hole Miami. For one night, the usual crowd of power drinkers, scuzzy punks and alternative anti-establishment political post-rock types will be taking in more than just a lifetime's worth of second-hand smoke as DJ Milton Clark of the Kirk6 crew and Sarcastic of Level 4 reach deep and dust off their classic '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s music crates for a night of down and dirty fun. Miami Vice is the name and there's no cover. Saturday, Oct. 9, expect: the IDJ crew to rock another intimate D&B session. Screwhead and the IDJ residents will all be on hand to make sure things get out of hand on the dancefloor at le Chill. Remember, capacity is limited to only about 100, so get your tix in advance at 401-6774. Don't expect: a quiet day of shopping at St-Laurent's Inbeat Records on Saturday. From 2 p.m., Trigger Recordings and Pronto Musique will celebrate the launch of the debut album Free Radical by Cravo e Canela (Trevor Walker and Miguel Graça). Drop by and have a listen before catching the duo alongside Trigger's François LeBaron at Circus. Tuesday, Oct. 12, expect: to hear some fresh and rare classic tracks in the Chicago booty, acid house, breaks and electro vein at Saphir's weekly Ghettoblast night. Every week, DJ Philgood, Phranteek, Dave O Brien and Deliz dedicate themselves to opening up audiences' ears to the amazing and influential sounds of yesterday's underground. No cover and cheap drinks too! Don't expect: the Flexout crew to drop the ball repping forward-thinking music in Montreal. Their guests at Blizzarts on Tuesday will be hometown blip-hop success story Ghislain Poirier spinning some exclusive material while residents Ram Dac and Crispian back him up. Three dollar cover. Umm, no, son, bukkake is not, I repeat not a Jewish holiday… Diskoakimbo@sympatico.ca |
